SCHOOL PROGRAM

Challenges in the Kenyan education sector
Following the introduction of CBC curriculum in the Kenyan education sector, new challenges around fees have emerged. Parents of students in junior secondary now have a fee burden even though government has declared that primary school learning should be free of charge.
The demands for learning material and uniform in junior school have introduced new aspect to primary school that require payment.
Bethrehema School Program
Our school program provides disadvantaged children in Kisumu with the opportunity to receive education throughout their entire school journey – from secondary school to university graduation.
Supporting Secondary Education
We help students from Form 1 to Form 4 (secondary school) over a period of 4 years. Depending on their circumstances, students may attend public boarding schools or day schools.
Costs for Boarding School Students
Disadvantaged students who qualify for public boarding schools need between Ksh 45,000 and Ksh 70,000 (around €312 - €486) per year. The highest costs are incurred in the first year due to additional expenses like school uniforms. The estimated total budget for keeping a child in school for four years in a boarding school is about Ksh 300,000 (approximately €2,084).
Costs for Day School Students
For day schools, the fees range between Ksh 4,900 and Ksh 15,000 (around €35 - €104) per year. The estimated total budget for four years in a day school is around Ksh 100,000 (approximately €695).
